Or Adam Congregation for Humanistic Judaism, the Phoenix, Arizona affiliate of the Society for Humanistic Judaism, is an active, inclusive congregation with members of all ages and backgrounds. We provide the opportunity to celebrate the past, present, and future of the Jewish cultural experience within a welcoming community of like-minded individuals. We embrace the moral values, languages, food, music, literature, art, and traditions of the Jewish people, and their impact on the world. We consider the global and diverse Jewish family to be continually evolving. Our central philosophy is secular and humanistic. We see human determination, empathy, and intelligence, not faith or belief in a supernatural power, as the guide to understanding ourselves, connecting to one another, and making a positive impact on the world.

We provide a wide range of activities for all ages. Childrens activities include an infant and toddler playgroup and Sunday school education for children preschool through high school age. We have formal Shabbat and holiday celebrations throughout the year. Additional enrichment activities include speakers and discussions, films, book club meetings, friendship groups, Shabbat and Havdalah dinners, and community service events.

We conduct Hebrew baby naming ceremonies and prepare youth for Bar and Bat Mitzvah events. Weddings, memorials, and other Life Cycle events may be conducted by a Rabbi, Madrikh, or lay leader. Or Adam members come from all over the Phoenix metropolitan area, ranging from Sun City West to Queen Creek. We welcome singles, same-sex couples, and all kinds of families, whether blended, traditional, interfaith, intercultural, or interracial.

Our vision is to bring together Jews in the Phoenix area with the purpose of expressing our human connection to Judaism; celebrating cultural aspects of holidays, festivals and life-cycle events; and experiencing Jewish learning in a secular humanistic atmosphere.
